These folks have been using this setup for several years. They started with one of those hoop type garages available from Costco and added the polycarbonate sheeting. Their first comment was that they should have used the clear instead of the smoky type. This unit is used in the spring and fall to extend the growing season.
This may be the best solution to high country growing. The tomato plants are a year old and still producing. The heat for the winter was provided by one four foot electric baseboard heater which, considering the space involved is quite inexpensive. (Not that electric is the least expensive way to heat.) Overall this is a really impressive setup.
I forgot to ask but I estimate the size to be about 24 feet dia. The panels are 3 ply polycarbonate.
The entry was built by the homeowner and sports an airlock.
The one hinged panel on the south side. There is also one on the very top.
View from the north side
Reflective/ insulating inserts on the south facing (north side) interior dome. No wasted light or heat.
The small circulating fan (in the wooden box) is powered by a small solar panel. The electric baseboard heater is visable in the lower right.
Well, TomTom has a problem standing up.
I suspect it is because has no real-world-experience; he has led a very sheltered life.
All I did was take him outside to play in the snow (Do tomato plants like to play on the snow?) and as I went out the door he just fell over – kinda like a wet mop!
I have him tied to the bail for now but I will get some lath to hold him up.
Is the 2nd amendment there so we have a right to hunt ducks?
