Still looks about like I remember it from years ago. The Post Office is still there as are many of the original fixtures. I tried to shoot as much as I could without flash but then went back and re-shot with flash on.

with the advent of the cell phone the phone booth is all but a forgotten relic.

The shelves are stocked much like you might find at your local gas station/convenience store. Today you can just jump in your car and run to town and shop at the mega-super WalKingSafe store but there was a time when locals depended on establishments like this for much of their food and supplies – going to town and back was a three day event!

How many have actually used an icebox? This one is a three story model!

STRANGE LIGHTS OVER NORWAY: This morning in Norway, people saw a strange and still-unexplained phenomenon. Eye-witness Nick Banbury of Harstad reports: “We are used to seeing lots of auroras here in Arctic Norway, but on my way to work this morning I saw something completely unexpected. Between 7:50 and 8:00 a.m. local time, there was a strange light in the sky,” shown here in a photo taken by Jan Petter:

“It consisted initially of a green beam of light similar in colour to the aurora with a mysterious rotating spiral at one end,” continues Banbury. “This spiral then got bigger and bigger until it turned into a huge halo in the sky with the green beam extending down to the earth. According to the press, this could be seen all over northern norway and must therefore have been very high up in the atmosphere to be seen hundreds of km apart.”

“[A popular] suggestion at the moment is that it was a rocket shot up by a Russian submarine in the white sea, but the Russians deny this apparently. A big mystery indeed!”

Now This is a T R U C K !

All the rain has made the area a veritable garden with loads of wildflowers. This next week would be great for a short daytrip if you were so inclined.

There are lots of columbine.

I cannot seem to drive past a field of these beauties without firing off a shot or two.

We saw a family of geese -

And a beaver.

And a young man trying to talk a fish onto his hook at another beaver pond.

A few head of cattle graze peacefully in a meadow with the evidence of the Haymen fire in the background.

Speaking of the fire – there is a evidence that the forest is recovering – just like forests have done for millennium.

. . .  and we saw a bear – running across the road.

This is a picture of the road where the bear ran across.

No! There is no bear in the picture – he was long gone by the time I raised my camera from my lap and fired off a shot!

. . but it WAS a bear – I swear!

Dr. Pepper is starting to come to life and the tomatoes are putting on tons of little green orbs which I trust will someday be tons of red tomatoes.

Still putting the tarp on at night but at least the early morning is clear which is a change from the past few weeks.
